New Albany - Plain Local Schools is encouraging families to help their children keep critical skills they learned during the school year by participating in Columbus Metropolitan Library’s (CML) Summer Reading Challenge.

Parents and caregivers can sign up their children from home at columbuslibrary.org/summerreading or at the Market Square Branch here in New Albany. All participants will need a CML library card.

The nine-week online program enables participants to track their reading and library activity goals from home to earn badges and prizes, play fun games and learn valuable tips to help early readers.

CML’s annual Summer Reading Challenge runs Saturday, June 2 through Saturday, Aug. 4.
 

Studies show that kids who read during the summer maintain reading skills that are critical to future school success. As a district, we are proud of our 100% passage rate for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and programs like the summer reading program at the CML will help our students to be as prepared as ever for next school year.  

“We welcome students and families from [your school district] to participate in Summer Reading Challenge,” said CML CEO Patrick Losinski. “We know kids who don’t read during the summer run the risk of losing key literacy skills and learning momentum.”

“We are calling on all parents and caregivers in our community to make sure your students are reading this summer,” said Superintendent Michael Sawyers. “That way, kids can return to the classroom in the fall better equipped for learning and growth.”
