Happy New Year! Attendance Model info for January 4

Dear NAPLS Parents, Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We hope this finds all of you well and enjoying the winter recess with your immediate family members.  As promised in our last communication, we want to provide you with an update on our return to school plans in January.  Based upon information and recommendations provided by local and state health and governmental officials and our review of available data, we are updating our return to school plans for January.

The following school attendance models will be in effect unless otherwise communicated:

Week of January 4 through 8:  

  • Preschool:  All-in (smaller class sizes and ability to socially distance)
  • Grades K-8:  Hybrid (see calendar below for assigned rotation dates)
  • Grades 9-12:  REMOTE (additional information will be provided by the high school)

Week of January 11 through 15:

  • Preschool:  All-in (smaller class sizes and ability to socially distance)
  • Grades K-12:  Hybrid (see calendar below for assigned rotation dates)

Week beginning January 19 and beyond:
To Be Determined:  During the next few weeks, we will continue to analyze and review available data to update you on the school attendance model(s) beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2021.  

It remains our intent to move to “all-in” daily school attendance for students electing in-person as soon as possible.

The Board of Education will discuss available data to determine our path forward at their January 11, 2021 meeting.  For now, in an effort to permit our families, faculty, and staff members to properly plan, we are confirming our updated school attendance model for in-person students from January 4, 2021 through January 15, 2021 as outlined in this updated calendar pending any new information learned.


January 2021 calendar

Virtual Learning Program (VLP) Students

Students currently participating in the VLP program will continue uninterrupted.  Parents/guardians who elect their child(ren) to return to school in-person OR begin enrollment in the VLP program beginning January 19, 2021 will receive additional information directly from each school building of attendance.

Eagles Nest

Eagles Nest before/after school care will be open for students attending school on their designated hybrid days.  Should you have any questions related to your child’s participation in Eagles Nest, please contact Ms. Angela Steve directly.

Food Services

Students remain eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch for each school day based upon current federal guidelines.   Families may elect to register to participate in a weekly food pick-up for any school days that your child(ren) is not scheduled for in-person attendance.  Please contact Carol Hamilton, Coordinator of Food Services, via hamilton.27@napls.us for additional information.  Currently registered families electing to receive food from our food services program will receive a communication outlining the pick-up procedures as normal.  

Extracurricular Activities and Athletics

Any updates regarding participation in extracurricular activities, including winter sports, will continue to be communicated by advisors/coaches.

Holiday Travel Reminder

Please be reminded that we adhere to the recommendations outlined by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding travel.  Families who elected to travel to a location reporting a positive testing rate of 15% or higher for the disease are advised to self-quarantine their student(s) at home for 14 days from the time they left the state as recommended by ODH or the CDC.  Detailed information regarding this domestic travel advisory may be found here.  Information on international travel may be found here.  Please know that students are medically excused from school for COVID-19 related reasons when quarantined at home as long as they remain engaged in the learning process.
