Board of Education Special Meeting Recap

The Board of Education held a special meeting on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020 at the NAPLS Annex. The focus was an update in the district's Responsible Restart Plan and the steps for moving forward.

This message was sent to families after the meeting.

Good evening everyone,

The New Albany-Plain Local School District Board of Education received an update on our responsible restart plan to review the experiences of the hybrid + in-person all-in attendance model which was recently implemented.  Updated health information and our current COVID-19 projected data for the week were also shared.  You may find the presentation here.

Based upon the information presented at tonight’s Board of Education discussion, the Board of Education adopted a resolution affirming that all in-person students (maroon and gold groups) will begin daily attendance at school beginning Monday, October 5, 2020.  All Virtual Learning Plan (VLP) students will continue uninterrupted in the VLP through at least January 15, 2021.  ALL parents will have the option to elect to enroll for “in-person” or “VLP” for the second semester beginning in late October or early November.

The Board and administration will continue to actively monitor available health data, health or governmental orders, guidance, and/or recommendations, legislation, absenteeism, sickness, community spread, and the daily practice of health and safety protocols on the learning campus to safeguard students, families, faculty, staff, and our community. The administration will continue to meet weekly with Franklin County Public Health and discuss data with the New Albany COVID-19 Task Force to provide updates to the Board of Education.

Based upon this progress monitoring, the Board of Education will determine when/if it is necessary to change the “all-in” attendance pattern at any time to return to hybrid, eLearning, or any other attendance pattern. Changes in attendance patterns may be required for a specific grade-level, the wing/hallway of a school, a school building, or even district-wide.

Thank you for everything you have done to support our safe return to school.  To keep our schools open, we must continue to Mask Up, Back Up, and Wash Up as a CommUnity.  Your cooperation and due diligence as a community are essential to protecting the safety and welfare of everyone.

The Board of Education sincerely thanks all of our students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and parents for an incredible start to the 2020-21 school year.  Go Eagles!

Sincerely,
