Traffic Flow & Safety Around Campus

Fodor Road entry As we continue our partnership to make our community a safe place for all - in and around the school campus - we are seeking your assistance. There are three major traffic issues identified by New Albany Police and district administration on which we are focused.

New Albany High School Entrance from Fodor Road

A traffic signal was installed at the entrance at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. Three signs are posted which prohibit left turns onto Fodor during the hours of 7 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4.p.m.  This restriction is posted for the safety of our students crossing Fodor to the parking lot at the Church of the Resurrection. During (left turn) prohibited hours, an officer may not be present at this intersection and when an officer is not present, we receive many complaints of people making the illegal left turn creating an unsafe situation for students. In the past, officers have issued verbal warnings; however, in the next few weeks, officers will be enhancing our traffic enforcement around the campus area in an effort to curb this traffic violation and citations will be issued for violations.

Middle School/High School Express Loop (newly opened)

Please obey the sign prohibiting left turns at all times when exiting the loop. The express loop is only open to the public on school days from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. This loop has been effective with morning drop off for middle and high school students as well as busing for students with special needs.

McCoy Loop Exit

The conclusion of the Rose Run Construction project has allowed normal traffic flow to resume in the McCoy Loop. Unfortunately, there have been ongoing issues with the McCoy Loop exit.  As the exit is currently designed, there are two lanes exiting the McCoy Loop. The left turn lane exiting the loop is blocked by a static barrier and a left turn prohibited sign is posted.

The right exit lane of the loop has a curved concrete curb to force traffic to make a right turn onto Dublin-Granville road.  The problem occurs when people exit through the right lane and make a wide left turn around the curb to perform an illegal left turn in violation of posted traffic signs.  Officers have made several traffic stops for the left turn violation and will continue to issue citations. Parents are reminded to obey the posted traffic signs on our school campus when an officer is not present.

We appreciate your attention and support as we work to ensure a safe space for all in and around the New Albany-Plain Local Schools Campus. Thank you in advance for your support.
