Congratulations to Lizzie Valdez First place in Ohio at the Educators Rising Conference!

A Day at the park page imageCongratulations to Lizzie Valdez, a senior in the Teaching Professions program (a satellite program at Gahanna Lincoln High School) and part of the Eastland-Fairfield Career Center. It’s a two-year program which you go into in your junior year. As part of the Teaching Professions Program students are required to compete at an organization that they are affiliated with called Educators Rising. These are teaching related competitions that include lesson planning, public speaking and children’s literature for either grades K-3 or Pre-K and more.

This year, the Educators Rising State Conference was held at Capital University and Lizzie participated in the Children’s Literature Pre-K Competition. She and her partner, Reagan Peterson, a senior as well (her home school is Gahanna Lincoln High School), wrote a children’s book titled A Day at The Park. It is a touch and feel book that includes actual materials inside, cotton balls for clouds, sandpaper for the sidewalk, and a bird speaker that actually plays sounds of birds chirping when you touch the speaker and more. They also included Spanish words that she wrote in the book because she is bilingual and I thought it was important to include Spanish words in the book. Additionally, the book features an index that translates what the Spanish words are in English.

Lizzie and Reagan competed against 15 other school districts in Ohio who also competed in the same category and they won first place in the state of Ohio for their book! As a result, she and Reagan are invited to The Educators Rising National Conference where they will compete nationally against other states with their children’s book in Washington D.C in June. Congratulations again and best of luck this summer in D.C.
