Good Morning!!! Welcome to the 2019 New Albany High School Graduation Ceremony. As we begin our celebration, I would like to take some time to thank a few different groups of people that have had a dramatic impact on the lives of our students. First, I would like to thank all of you, all the of the families, relatives, and friends that have gathered here, today, to give your support and celebrate with our graduates. I would also like thank you, on behalf of our students, for all of the support that you have given them throughout their school career. This day would not be possible without you and know that your child is grateful for all that you have done for them.
Graduates, please stand, find your families in the audience and give them a round of applause for everything that they have done for you.
Second, I would like to thank and recognize the New Albany Plain Local Schools Board of Education, District, and Building Administration in attendance today. Finally, if the High School Staff could please stand. I would like to recognize the staff and specifically those staff members that worked to put this celebration together. I would like to recognize Karrie Horton, Lori Cheney, Karen Morlan, Greta Manning, Jenny Sage, Beth Johnston, Shelley Santantonio and all the members of the Senior Team for all of their efforts. Hopefully, you will have the opportunity to reflect on this moment and recognize that all the hard work is worth it. To the entire staff, thank you for working with these students everyday to give them the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their highest potential. No matter what role you serve at the high school, it has been vital in educating the students in front of us today. Can we please give our staff a round of applause?
Now on to the class of 2019. Today is a day of celebration. Today is a day that you should be proud of your accomplishments. Today should also be a day of reflection. To look at those sitting around you and recognize the journey that you have completed together. To look back to the first time you walked into the high school as a nervous freshmen trying to find your locker or figure out what hallway was what letter. To look back at the first time you represented us on an athletic field, in the McCoy, or at a competition. To look back at the first time you realized you needed help in a class and had to rely on one another to figure it out. To look back at the friends you made, the friends you have, and the friends that drifted away. Through all of these experiences the one thing that was happening that you didn’t realize is that you were growing; mentally, socially, and physically. You are now ready and prepared to take on the world. From each and everyone of our experiences, we grow. Whether positive or negative, whether easy or difficult, all of your experiences were preparing you for your future. The experiences you had at New Albany High School will be carried forward for the rest of your lives. You will remember the good times and the bad times and your future responses will change because of what you learned together.
Today is truly a day of reflection. As I think about our year together, I am disappointed that I was not able to have more time with you. You have shown yourselves to be open and honest, you have been resilient in your efforts as a class, you have shown your leadership, and have challenged me in the most positive of ways. I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish this year and thank you for your support. I am confident that you have the skills and attributes necessary to make a difference in this world. It has truly been an honor to serve as your principal this year. I wish you nothing but the best in your future.
