Digital Wellness

Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted have declared February 16-22, 2020 Digital Wellness Week in the state of Ohio.

The proclamation states, “In today’s world, it’s more important than ever that we successfully prepare our youth on how to interact socially, personally, and educationally in online environments.”

Digital Wellness Week is a statewide initiative designed to encourage Ohio students to make safe, healthy, and positive decisions in our technology-rich world. There are four focus areas; well-being, citizenship, etiquette, and safety.

You can visit www.wosu.org/digitalwellness to learn more about the state-wide project. New Albany Plain Local is one of many districts and organizations that collaborated to create this website and the resources.

Being successful in life and in a career requires each young learner to find balance between their face-to-face life and their digital life.

A brand-new Digital Wellness program launching this month in schools and districts across the state provides a playbook for principals and teachers on the attitudes, practices and ideas for creating a digital wellness culture in their schools.

Teachers at every grade level can easily implement the 20-minute lesson plans to ensure that students in primary, middle and high school have the tools, resources and skills to interact personally, socially and educationally in the real world and in digital spaces.

The four core principles of digital wellness:

  • Well-Being
Balance is Best. I will maintain a balance between digital and face-to-face interactions in life.

  • Citizenship
Be the Best You. I will be responsible, ethical, honest, and literate in today’s digital world.

  • Etiquette
It’s Cool To Be Kind. I will choose to be positive with others online.

  • Safety
Be Aware. I will be safe online and protect private information.

Helping build communities that educate and empower students to live a digitally balanced life, Digital Wellness is a rigorous curriculum to ensure students can make safe, healthy and positive decisions in this technology-rich world. Published by WOSU Classroom, the Digital Wellness program is the result of a statewide collaboration among of schools and districts from across Ohio. Educators are encouraged to take the digital wellness pledge and learn more at wosu.org/digital wellness.
