Visual /Performing Arts Identfication

The Ohio Department of Education states that all “districts shall identify students as gifted in the area of visual or performing arts ability when a student demonstrates superior ability in a visual or performing arts area through a display of work, an audition, or other performance or exhibition and also obtains a qualifying score on an approved checklist of behaviors related to a specific arts area.”

The potential areas of Visual or Performing Arts (VPA) are

Drama/Theater
Music (Vocal or Instrumental)
Dance
Visual Art

Excellent motor coordination	Outstanding sense of spatial relationships
Keenly observes others who have artistic skill	Flexibility with ideas
Demonstrates talent for extended periods of time	Strives to improve artistic skills
Picks up skills in arts with little or no instruction	Practices regularly without being told
High sensory sensitivity	Desire for producing an original product
Sees minute details in art of performances	Unusual ability for self expression through art, dance, drama, music etc.
