OUR LEARNING COMMUNITY
New Albany, Ohio is approximately 10 miles northeast of Columbus, and our schools are located on a central Learning Campus in the heart of the Village. The school district serves an area of 23 square miles. New Albany is both one of the oldest and one of the newest communities in Central Ohio. It was founded in 1837 and remained primarily a rural village for nearly 150 years before significant residential and commercial growth arrived. New Albany was recognized in 2015 as America's Best Suburb by Business Insider.

Unlike some suburban communities that are sprawling with unregulated growth, New Albany is seeking to develop as a “balanced” community, a 21st Century village in which its 10,000 residents, business enterprises, developers, government entities, and schools share a common vision. Partnerships are key elements in community growth.

New Albany is home to a diverse group of people, traveling here from around the country and around the globe. New Albany is an evolving and developing business environment, and many families have chosen to live in the community because of the commitment to education. OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT
New Albany - Plain Local Schools is a consistent performer earning the maximum of indicators on the state report card issued by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). In the fall of 2024, our district earned an overall five-star rating as well five stars on all five components on the Local Report Card. NAPLS is one of 18 districts in Ohio to achieve this distinction. 

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE 
In 2016, the Board of Education established the Purpose for the district: to create a culture of accountability that achieves the best academic and developmental outcomes for each student. A Continuous Improvement Plan was also developed in the winter of 2016, with the aspirational goal to be ranked by 2021 in the top 5% (#30 or higher of 608 public school districts) for student achievement in the State of Ohio as reported by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), which will require incremental progress of at least 1% annually. The CIP is updated each year and the District aspires to become and remain the best rated public school district in the State of Ohio.

The district’s buildings are designed in a Georgian Architectural, campus-style complex on 120 acres, connected by tree-lined walkways, and surrounded by an 80 acre nature preserve. From our “Jeffersonian” Library-Information and student center on the high school campus green, to the adjoining Environmental Land Lab, the Learning Community Campus is as unique as it is functional, creating outstanding educational opportunities.

The District opened its newest facility in 2015, completing the campus as it accommodates district growth until the year 2021. The 150,000 square foot innovative learning facility is now the New Albany Intermediate School housing students in grades 4 through 6 based on a robust Reconfiguration Study that the district conducted in the middle fo the 2016-17 school year. Grant-funded additions to the campus are the MIT Fabrication Lab opened in the 2014-15 school year, featuring college-level coursework through the College Credit Plus initiative and the Easton-OSU Engineering, Environmental and Energy Land Lab which was ready for students in the fall of 2017.

There are more than 5,134 students in the district, served by some 356 faculty and 296 staff members. Parent involvement and community support are integral to the success of our nationally recognized, award- winning school district. We strive to promote strong connections between the school and community, and – most importantly — establish education as our top priority, today and for the future.
