Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Toplak

Carla Toplak received her teaching degree at the University of Michigan, and her Master of Education degree and Reading Endorsement at The Ohio State University.  After teaching Kindergarten in Athens, Ohio for 5 years, Carla moved to Columbus and began teaching at New Albany Plain Local Schools as a Kindergarten teacher. Over the past 23 years in New Albany, Carla has taught Kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, and most recently, first grade.

This year Carla will transition into a new role as a reading intervention specialist for grades one through three. Carla is passionate about helping her students become confident and successful readers.

Throughout Carla’s career she has continued to pursue opportunities that allow her to stay up to date on the best practices in education.  She appreciates that there are always things to learn that will help her continue to perfect her craft.  Carla’s passion and commitment to literacy instruction stems from her belief that every child can become a successful reader when they get the appropriate instruction.

Carla and her husband, Bo, have three adult children: Kasimir, Alaina, and Quinn. They also have an adorable King Charles Spaniel, Emmy, and lovely cat, MoMo.  Carla enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Carla is thankful for her amazing family, and career, and for a new teaching role that she knows she will absolutely love!

Carla looks forward to teaming with her colleagues in the classroom, and with the families of her students to make every child’s reading journey a positive, successful experience.
