Mrs. Durkop

Margaret Durkop is an alumna of Ohio University in Athens, OH. At Ohio University Margaret earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career at New Albany Plain Local Schools in the building formerly known as the K-1.

Margaret taught first grade for ten years, during that time she went back to school earning a Master’s degree in reading from Ashland University. Margaret is passionate about helping young readers become confident and successful readers. Margaret is currently a reading intervention specialist for students in grades one through three and has been in this role for the past eight years.

During her eighteen years at New Albany, Margaret continues to pursue opportunities where she can learn and progress through professional development and coursework at various local and online universities. She has also participated in many teacher training programs in order to continue to perfect her craft. Margaret is passionate about making an impact and ensuring that each student gets the instruction they need.

Margaret and her husband Mitch have two children. Marissa is eleven and Miles is nine years old. They also have two Boxer pups that have BIG personalities. Margaret is thankful for her supportive family and for a teaching role she absolutely loves.
