Degrees and Certifications:
Kara spent her first fourteen years as a third-grade teacher, and then entered a new role in New Albany as a literacy specialist. She has spent the past eight years working as a reading intervention specialist. Kara is now serving in a dual role. She is an instructional coach at the Primary Building and a reading intervention specialist for students in grades one through three. This is her second year serving as an instructional coach and her ninth year as a reading intervention specialist. She also serves on the school district's Dyslexia Committee and is a building data coach.
During her twenty-three years at New Albany, Kara has taken advantage of multiple professional development opportunities to continue her knowledge of instruction, particularly in the area of reading. Recently, she completed an Orton Gillingham practicum in order to obtain her Associate certification. With a passion and commitment to literacy instruction, Kara believes that every child can become a successful, lifelong reader.
Kara and her husband Zach have a 8-year-old daughter and a sweet, snuggly cavapoo dog.Their daughter, Kendall, brings so much joy into the family with her happy little personality and her love of reading, gymnastics, swimming, baking, and learning. In her spare time, Kara runs a large local charity event. This charity raises research money to fund clinical trials for women like Kara’s sister who passed away from inflammatory breast cancer. Kara feels blessed to have the support of her family, friends, and colleagues.
