Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to 2nd grade! My name is Becky Wanless and I've been a teacher at NAPLS since 2005. During my time at NAPLS I have taught 1st grade and 2nd grade and I was able to watch my first group of students graduate this year! The time has gone by SO fast!
I grew up near Toledo, Ohio and am the youngest of 3. My parents just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary earlier this month and are my biggest supporters. My older brother lives in Chicago with his wife and their 2 boys and my sister lives near Toledo with her husband and their daughter. I live smack dab in downtown Columbus with my "fur-kid" Matilda (aka Madie) and love the hustle and bustle of the city. I'm often found wandering around German Village with a coffee in hand or perusing the shops in the Short North. Some of my passions include art (creating and admiring), interior design, reading, dogs, coffee, and education.
Prior to moving to Columbus, I attended The College of Wooster (in Wooster, Ohio) and majored in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Elementary Education. After teaching for a few years I decided to go back to school for my Master's degree. I chose to attend THE Ohio State University and graduated with my Master's degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Drama, Language, Literacy, and Culture. This summer I finished another Master's degree in Education Administration from OSU. I truly love learning and hope to instill that same thirst of knowledge in my own students.
My teaching and learning philosophy is simple- Be Kind and Work Hard. Throughout this school year your child will encounter many new experiences, conquer several challenges, learn new things, make lasting friendships, and one thing that helps makes this possible is our teacher-parent partnership. As we work through 2nd grade together I encourage you to follow me on Twitter at @Miss_Wanless to see what we're working on in class, visit our class website and/or contact me via email at email@example.com with questions, concerns and/or comments. I'm looking forward to another wonderful year in 2nd grade!
