Mrs. Hyer

Hello! My name is April Hyer, and I look forward to working with you and your son or daughter in the year to come.  I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, with my parents and younger sister.  But, once I moved to Columbus for college, I didn't want to leave!  I graduated from Capital Unversity, in 2000, with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education for grades 1-8 and a reading endorsement for grades K-12.  After teaching for two years, I went back and earned my Masters of Arts in Education, while teaching, with a focus in non-traditional forms of learning, at the Ohio State University, in 2005.

I teach fourth grade reading and writing at New Albany Intermediate School. Before that, I taught four years of third grade and 11 years of sixth grade, in the same subject area, within the New Albany Schools.  In addition, I have four years of teaching in the Dublin City Schools district, in Dublin, Ohio.  During my time there, I taught eighth grade Language Arts and Reading for two years, and then fourth grade, all subject areas, for two years.

When not teaching, I am with my family. I live in Westerville with my husband, three boys, and dog.  We love to have movie nights, watching OSU football and Blue Jackets hockey, and hanging out around our fire pit at home.  Our favorite spot to vacation is Disney, and we love to challenge ourselves to find new things to do around Columbus and Ohio.
