Mrs. Hayes

Mrs. Janice Hayes- Biography-“Be who you are and be that well”- Saint Francis de Sales.

Life is a learning journey- The Growth Mindset allows one to learn from every challenge and journey. My journey after high school led me to Otterbein College where I achieved a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and played basketball for the Cardinals. Seven years later, I furthered my education at the University of Toledo with a Masters’ degree and Teaching certification 1-8. My first teaching position was working in the Sylvania School District as a long-term substitute for grades 3 and 4. This experience allowed me the opportunity to work in Sylvania for 6 years with 4th and 5th graders and volunteer as a coach with the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Program.

It is hard to believe I will be starting my 25th year in Education; 18th year here in New Albany. This journey in New Albany has allowed me to teach many subject areas: Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies for students in Upper Elementary levels and Middle School. Also, I have had the wonderful experience to pilot the Student Awareness Program and focus on the Social/Emotional Learning of students and staff. Several years ago, I used the strategies to increase girls' social/emotional well-being by volunteering with the “Girls on the Run” after-school program and share my passion of running.

I am grateful for my Family time- with my husband, sons, and dog, we explore all possibilities of the outdoors from all sports to camping; to just relaxing by a fire-Family Time allows the journey to create a lifetime of precious memories. I look forward to the memories we will make this year.
