Mrs. Cervantes

Welcome to Mrs. Cervantes class! I am honored to be a New Albany Eagle and work in a district that focuses on each and every child.  I graduated from Ohio Dominican University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and earned my Master’s in Education from Ashland University in 2008. It is a passion of mine to continuously learn and stay up to date with innovative practices in the classroom. I consistently take courses focusing on the use of technology, meeting the social and emotional needs of each student, working with the gifted learner, helping the struggling reader, and using design thinking and problem based learning in the classroom. If there is a course offering, you can be assured that I will be there learning!

This marks the beginning of my 15th year as an educator. I spent the first ten years teaching first grade and then switched to second grade. My philosophy is to encourage  students to LOVE learning through school and community based projects, passion projects, and by focusing on the emotional needs of each child. I wholeheartedly believe that all children can reach their full potential when they feel safe, loved, and motivated. It is also very impactful when the teacher and the families communicate often and with honesty. I hope we will work as a team to ensure the success of your child. I promise you to always support and love your children. My desire is that each child will start and end the day with a smile!

Outside of the school day I spend my time with my husband and our five children. I have a 12 year old daughter who will be in 7th grade this year at New Albany Middle School. I also have 6 year old triplets starting 1st grade, one boy and two girls. We also have a new addition who will be turning one this November. We love to ride bikes, go to the park, and just be outside! This past summer we spent almost every single day at the NA pool and riding bikes around our neighborhood. This fall we will be busy attending cross country meets and soccer tournaments for our oldest daughter, football for our son, and dance for our younger girls. I look forward to a great year with all of you!
