Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Sycher

I am beginning my fourteenth year of teaching at New Albany High School in the Social Studies Department. I received my undergraduate degree in American History from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. I also earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN, a Master of Theology Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ, and a Master of Arts in European History from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.

I am currently teaching classes in Freshmen Humanities and Advanced Placement Psychology. Over the years I have taught courses in Freshmen Humanities, 9th Grade ELL/Social Studies, Honors Western Humanities, Modern European/World History, American History, Government & Economics, and Leadership & Civic Virtue. Along with classroom instruction, I was the Girls Varsity Golf Coach (2005-2016), the school advisor for Senior Ohio Model United Nations, an instructor for intervention classes for the Ohio Graduation Test, and the test coordinator for SAT/ACT testing at the high school. In my spare time I love to read, especially all types of biographies, play golf and tennis, and watch different sporting events.

I live in Columbus, Ohio, with my wife Cathy, a retired nurse. Our son Alex, a 2009 alumnus of New Albany High School, graduated from Denison University in 2013, completed a Master's Degree program in History from Bowling Green State University in 2015, received a certificate in Paralegal Studies from Villanova University in 2016, and is currently in his first year of law school at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

On a final note, since I was young I have always been interested in studying history and doing research in this discipline. A major goal of mine is to share my passion and love of history with others. I have now been given this golden opportunity to teach the subject I love to the young people at New Albany High School. In addition, I am extremely excited this coming school year to teach and interact with students in my AP Psychology classes. There has never been a day that I have not enjoyed coming to work, and I count it an honor and privilege to interact with all the students and faculty.
