Welcome to The Shon Zone! My name is Sarah Shon, and I am starting my 20th year of teaching - all 20 years have been here at New Albany High School! I often refer to my career here at NAHS as my “Cloud 9 Job”, as I feel tremendously proud and privileged to be able to teach within such an amazing community. As the daughter of 2 educators, this profession is proudly in my blood and I’m fulfilling the dream I’ve had ever since I was a little girl.
Mathematics courses I have taught and/or currently teach include:
Calculus
Pre-Calculus
Algebra II
Honors Geometry
Geometry
Geometry Connections
Algebra/Geometry Connections I & II
Noble Academy
Senior Intervention Learning Center
Algebra II Intervention Learning Center
In addition to teaching mathematics here at NAHS, I am currently the advisor for SAGA (Sexuality And Gender Acceptance Club) and Mental Health Club. Both of these clubs are powerful communities within our school where all students are welcome—we promote acceptance, respect, and support for ALL students. Before SAGA and Mental Health Club, I was also the Junior Class Advisor for many years.
My commitment to helping ALL students feel a strong sense of belonging here at NAHS led me to take on the role of Building an Inclusive Campus Culture Facilitator. As the BICC Facilitator for NAHS, I work with a passionate group of colleagues to help celebrate and support our students and staff as we grow and learn from each other. Additionally, I am taking on the new role of Sources of Strength Co-Coordinator, where I work with student leaders to lift up all students to help them feel safe and accepted here at school.
I am a proud graduate of both Miami University and The Ohio State University. I earned my Master of Education Degree in Educational Psychology from OSU in 2009. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Integrated Mathematics Education from Miami in 2004.
My husband and I were both born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and we’ve been friends since the 3rd grade. We have 2 teenage daughters who are both taller than me and are growing up way too fast! There’s never a dull moment in the Shon house—between cheering them on in their sports, marching band, and tech crew...I love my busy life!
