Welcome! My name is Linda Schmidt. I have been teaching at New Albany High School since I graduated from college in 2007! I am the daughter of a math teacher. My mother taught Geometry for 35 years in Northeast Ohio. I often say that teaching math is in my blood. I am very passionate about teaching high school mathematics. I attribute my passion and energy in the classroom to the outstanding teachers that I had as role models in high school. I hope I am continuing that tradition and passing along my excitement for mathematics to the students at New Albany High School.
I am a proud graduate of The Ohio State University where I earned two degrees. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2006 and then my Masters of Education in Secondary Mathematics in 2007. I am most proud of my experiences as both an undergraduate teaching assistant as well as a graduate teaching assistant. You can ask my students; those rolls have made me into the efficient grader that I am today!
I currently teach AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC. I am also a teacher in Noble Academy. I created the AP Calculus BC curriculum for NAHS in 2011. I am incredibly proud of the fact that I have created this successful program here. I look forward to the continuous task of challenging my students to be the best mathematicians, critical thinkers and problem solvers that they can be.
I have recently “retired” as the Auxiliary Advisor for the NAHS Marching Band. I enjoyed the 9 years that I spent leading wonderful groups of girls and teaching them flag and dance. I brought back majorettes to the program for the first time in nearly twenty years. I was also the Junior Class Advisor (6 years) where I helped plan many Powder Puff and Prom events. I “retired” from these extracurriculars when I got married to my wonderful husband. We have two young children who keep me very busy!
I am beginning a new chapter in my life as a working mom, but I am thrilled to be working with the terrific students of New Albany. Previously I was the Parke House Dean. Now, I have taken on the responsibility of Nest Dean and the Math Competition Coordinator for the High School. I am looking forward to a great school year. Thank you for sharing your kids with me. They are truly an inspiration!
