My name is Gordon Erik Jablonka (I go by Erik) and I am proud to welcome you and your child to my classroom! I look forward to working with each of you over the course of the year. I graduated from Capital University with a degree in International Studies and Finance and worked for Sysco Foodservices for fifteen years. I later completed my teaching license as an Intervention Specialist at Ashland University. Before I came to New Albany, I taught language arts at a middle school in the Southwestern City Schools District. I now teach math and collaborate with other teachers in Algebra and Humanities. This will be my 5th year at New Albany High School.
I am interested in reading, scuba diving, hiking and traveling. One of my favorite experiences working for New Albany was leading a group of German language students on an eleven day trip to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
The core of my philosophy of education is that all students have the ability to learn. As educators we have a duty to provide an equal opportunity for students o learn regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, disability, or culture. Education should be a gateway to a variety of experiences, both academic and nonacademic, which prepares students for college or promotes the development of life skills. This happens through the useful interpretation and application of knowledge. Lastly, education should develop life- long learners for the betterment of students personally and the communities in which they reside.
