Ms. Pettigrew

I am so excited about our upcoming year together!

I am a rock hound and my love for geology finds me mining for fossils and minerals and working lapidary. Learning about and exploring caves, scientific places, and national parks is a passion of mine. This summer I traveled to Michigan’s sand dunes, New Jersey’s fluorescent mine and caves in Pennsylvania. My science associations include: NSTA, SECO, OESTA and Columbus Rock and Mineral Society. Swimming, hiking, and camping with my parents and large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins are some of my favorite activities. When I am indoors: playing the piano, crocheting, practicing yoga and reading take up my time. I have two pets; my rescue cat, Lola, and classroom rabbit, Newton.

My Bachelor’s degree is from Kent State University in Earth Science Education and additionally I am licensed in Integrated Science. This is my third year teaching at NAMS, but I have taught science for nine years. I have instructed 7th, 8th and 9th grade science classes.

My interest in science was sparked by my high school biology teacher that had us dissect chickens and turtles for learning and then we made soup! His passion for science and love of teaching was contagious! My hope is that my students feel the same energy and excitement about science that I did in school.
