Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Alba Arellano and I will be working with your child as their English Language teacher. I am very excited to work with you this year!
I was born and grew up in Venezuela. My first language is Spanish. I had to learn English as a second language myself. I came to the US in 2000 and have been at New Albany Schools since 2006. I have taught Spanish at the middle and high school levels and have been working with the EL students since 2019.
Students are pulled for reading group to work on their English skills. During reading group we will read books, work on vocabulary acquisition, spelling, writing and having students become more acquainted with the English language.
Students should work on their learning apps to continue to learn as much English as possible. They can work on Lexia and any other reading app (Epic) that they use in their regular classroom. Students should also read the take home books that come in the small baggie with their name. These are leveled books that they read during group. You can ask them questions about the stories, characters and have them read the book with/to you. They can also read books from the library to continue building their vocabulary.
Please email me if you have any questions, comments or want to share any information that would be helpful in our partnership.
