Mrs. Thornton

My name is Mrs. Cindy Thornton and I am thrilled to be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year! Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming a teacher. That dream became a reality and I am now enjoying my seventh year of teaching Kindergarten here in our amazing school district of New Albany. It’s such an exciting time for children and their families. My educational journey was not your typical one. I taught preschool early on in my career and then got married to my husband, Andy, and we will be celebrating our 38th wedding anniversary this fall. Certainly, my most important job has been being a teacher and parent to our three children. We have three grown children. Our son Benjamin and our granddaughter, Adalyn (5), live in Dayton. Our son Zachary, his wife Brianne, and our grandson, Jackson (19 months), live in Wisconsin. Our daughter Kate and her husband Tyler live in New Albany, too! She is an Intervention Specialist at the New Albany Primary Building.

While our children were young I had the opportunity to be a Director of a Preschool and Daycare Center, as well as a preschool teacher for many years. When our children were older I returned to The Ohio State University where I earned my Bachelor degree and Master’s Degree in Education. Upon graduation, I taught first grade for Willard City Schools for seven years. I have had the privilege of working with preschool and first-grade students and now am delighted to be with kindergarten friends.

When I am not teaching, you can find me spending time with my family. We enjoy the beach, spending the holidays together, and cheering on the Buckeyes! But my favorite thing to do is spend time playing, reading to, and exploring with our grandchildren.

I am eager to start teaching your children. I have the uncompromising view that all students can learn given a positive and loving learning environment that welcomes exploration and enhances student confidence and feelings of success. It is my belief that an educator’s mission is to make school enjoyable and exciting- if students look forward to attending school, they will want to LEARN! My promise to you is to love your child as if they were my own. At the same time, I subscribe to our district's vision of ensuring that children develop to their fullest individual potential. I strive to establish and instill in children values that reinforce and reflect a lifetime of learning.

I look forward to meeting you and your children! This is going to be an AMAZING year of learning!
