Is it possible to have teaching in your genes? I come from a family of educators and grew up knowing exactly what I wanted to do when I was older. I couldn't WAIT to have my own classroom and my own group of students to learn about, laugh with and grow. I pursued my passion by attending The University of Findlay and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2001. I began to teach in Northwest Ohio and continued my education at Bowling Green State University, where I earned a Master's Degree in 2004. As I read research related to early childhood development in these classes and compared it to experiences in my kindergarten classroom, I developed a strong interest in teaching problem solving skills to young children and developing a classroom climate that supports and encourages children to take risks in their learning. I later returned to The University of Findlay to add a Reading Endorsement to my license in 2009.
When I began teaching I was pretty sure that I didn't want to teach kindergarten, but discovered that I love the stories five and six year olds tell, the amazing academic and social growth that happens at this age, and being a part of building the foundation for future learning. After 17 years in kindergarten I decided to make the jump to the grade that I always thought I would love to teach…second grade! I’m very excited to welcome your child into a year filled with so much learning and excitement!
My husband Mike and I joined the New Albany community in 2006 when we moved to the area. Soon after our move we welcomed our son Anderson, born in 2007, and then our son Grady, born in 2010. In 2014 we grew our family by four paws with the addition of our rescue dog, Kramer, who keeps us in shape (He is a greyhound mix so we do a lot of running!). During the fall and spring you can find our family at Bevelhymer park on the baseball or football fields. We love sports and enjoy cheering on our favorite teams, the OSU Buckeyes and the OU Bobcats. Our summers are spent visiting family and friends and traveling to our favorite spot...the beach!
