Hello and welcome to the ELC English Language Learners Program!
My name is Elena Golikov, I am an ELL teacher at the ELC. I started teaching in New Albany in 2017. Prior to that I worked with English learners K-12 in Dublin City Schools for 10 years and taught Pre-K for 2 years in a private daycare.
I hold a double undergraduate degree in Teaching English and Early Childhood Education/Psychology from a Russian University. I graduated from the Ohio Dominican University with a MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I received my Reading Endorsement there as well.
I feel very blessed to work with families and students, many of whom are new to the U.S. language and culture, because I myself had to learn English as a second language and can relate to the bilingual aspects of my students and families. My family and I speak Russian at home and my children are fluent in both English and Russian. I am fascinated by languages, and if I could pick a superpower, I would definitely wish for the ability to speak all the languages in the world!
I live in Johnstown with my husband, 3 children, 2 cats and a fish. I enjoy growing plants, all kinds of crafts, being outdoors, camping and traveling!
It is always exciting for me to meet new EL students every year and to learn about their languages and cultures! My students amaze me with their brave learning efforts and willingness to try new things every day!
