New Albany High School Names Mark Solis as Head Football Coach

New Albany, Ohio — Pending Board of Education approval, New Albany High School has named Mark Solis as its next Head Football Coach, bringing an experienced and respected leader to guide the Eagles program into its next chapter.

Solis brings more than three decades of coaching experience, including 23 years as a head coach at five Ohio high school programs. He owns a 169–83 career record, a 67% winning percentage, and has led teams to 15 playoff appearances.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Solis to New Albany,” said Athletic Director Richie Wildenhaus. “He is a proven leader with a track record of building strong, competitive programs. More importantly, he is an exceptional educator and mentor who aligns with our commitment to developing the whole student-athlete.”

Solis is widely recognized for his ability to elevate programs through a focus on discipline, accountability, and player development. During his tenure at Olentangy High School, he led the Braves to eight consecutive playoff appearances, earned multiple Coach of the Year honors, and guided teams to deep postseason success, including a regional final and a Final Four appearance.

His coaching experience also includes leadership roles at Ashland Crestview, Elyria, Twinsburg, and Lorain, where his teams consistently demonstrated growth, resilience, and competitive excellence.

Most recently, Solis has served as an assistant coach at Hilliard Davidson High School, coordinating both defense and offense while continuing to expand his expertise in the modern game.

“Coaching is simply an extension of the classroom,” Solis said. “It’s an opportunity to help student-athletes become the best version of themselves and reach their full potential. I’m excited to join a community like New Albany that values excellence, character, and commitment.”

Solis steps into a New Albany program with a strong tradition of pride and community support—qualities he says drew him to the role.

“New Albany has always stood out,” he said. “The toughness and pride of the players, along with the support of the community, make this a special place. I’m honored to be part of it.”

His vision for the Eagles centers on building a culture of continuous improvement, strong relationships, and clear expectations—preparing student-athletes for success both on the field and beyond.

“Coach Solis brings experience, energy, and a clear vision for the future of our program,” Wildenhaus added. “We are excited for what lies ahead under his leadership.”

The school will announce opportunities for the community to meet Coach Solis in the coming weeks.
