From New Albany to the National Stage: NAHS Alumni Bird & Byron Take on America’s Got Talent
Two New Albany High School alumni are taking their music — and their New Albany roots — to one of the biggest stages in America.
Blake Bergere and Nick Lorenz, both members of the NAHS Class of 2015, make up the indie rock and soul duo Bird & Byron, and their musical journey has landed them on NBC’s America’s Got Talent.
Now, they’re headed to the LIVE stage!
Bird & Byron will perform live on Tuesday, September 8, representing not only their music and their growing fanbase, but the Central Ohio community where their friendship began.
Blake and Nick met when they were just seven years old and grew up together in New Albany.
They played baseball together, attended New Albany schools and graduated in the same class before eventually reconnecting to make music together in 2019.
Their America’s Got Talent journey began with an unforgettable audition featuring their original song, “I’ll Always Be There.” The performance earned four “yes” votes from the judges and plenty of praise. They later advanced through the Judges’ Callbacks, earning their place among the acts moving on to the live shows. Read more about their performance on August 11 here.
Their success is about more than music, too.
Bird & Byron have used the attention surrounding their AGT experience to support The Kids Mental Health Foundation at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a cause they say remains close to their hearts. The foundation works to provide families and communities with free, expert-created resources to support children’s mental health.
Bird & Byron have pledged a portion of proceeds from special merchandise connected to “I’ll
Always Be There” to the foundation while also encouraging fans to support the organization directly.
For our New Albany learning community, their journey is a special reminder of where creativity, friendship, perseverance and a dream can lead.
