Note: A minimum of 25 student must be enrolled for the Summer Production course to run.
Students will explore the process of developing a theatrical production for public performance through this hands-on course. Based upon their area of interest, each student will fill an essential position on the production, which could include: actors, assistant directors, backstage and construction crew members, designers, lighting and soundboard operators, stage managers, etc. In addition, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with theatrical professionals who will be brought in as guest artists by the Theatre Department. The class meetings for the course are the rehearsals for production. Assignments and assessments will be based on the students' specific role on the production. The course provides students with a unique opportunity to critically collaborate on and engage in an experience beyond the traditional walls of a classroom where their efforts and skills will be placed to the ultimate test: public performance. Topics/units might include: Conceptualizing a Production, Collaboration (e.g. Actor and Director, Designer and Director, etc.), Publicity, Selecting Shows for Performance, Scheduling, and Theatre Management (Budgets, Ticket Sales, etc.). NOTE: Times are subject to change.
