Importance of Downtime

The Importance of Downtime Over Summer Break

Incorporating downtime and family time into your child's summer break is crucial to their character development and wellbeing. Taking breaks has been shown to reduce stress and prevent anxiety and depression. Unstructured time allows for individuals to explore who they are, what kind of person they want to be, how to solve problems or navigate conflicts, provides opportunity to rest, reflect, and to think ahead for their future. At all ages, children are in need of regular sustaining family time. Studies show that spending time together as a family can strengthen a child's self-confidence and the parent-child relationship.

We would like to encourage families to balance their summer breaks with playtime, downtime, and family time. We hope you and your family are able to take this time to relax and enjoy the summer months.
