Scott Emery 
Director of Elementary Education
Preschool-6th Grade

Mr. Emery’s thirty-three year career began with the Dublin City Schools in 1992, where he was a teacher for five years. His first principalship was at Wyandot Elementary in 1997, where he was recognized with the Golden Shamrock Award in 1999 for his contributions to the Dublin school district.

In 2000, Mr. Emery was selected as the principal of Granville Elementary School, a K-5 school with 850 students. While at Granville Elementary he planned for the opening of Granville Intermediate School, and he became the school’s first principal when it opened for grades four to six in 2002. During Mr. Emery’s tenure at Granville Intermediate, the school was recognized as a Battelle For Kids SOAR Award winner, given to the top schools in Ohio for both student achievement and academic growth. Mr. Emery became Director of Educational Operations for the Granville Schools in 2008, which included the responsibilities of K-12 curriculum, communications, and human resources.

He returned to building administration as a principal with the Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools, where his school earned the High Progress School of Honor Award from the Ohio Department of Education, a recognition given to schools with significant numbers of economically disadvantaged students who demonstrate rates of academic growth in the top 10 percent of Ohio. Mr. Emery joined the administrative team of New Albany-Plain Local Schools in 2013 as an elementary principal and became the Director of Elementary Education in 2016.

After attending the Worthington Schools for his K-12 education, Mr. Emery graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1991 and completed his work for his masters degree (1995), principal license (1997), and superintendent license (2000) at The Ohio State University. He resides in Granville with his wife of 30 years, Wendy. They have three children: Sarah, a graduate of Miami University; William, a graduate of Georgetown University; and Grace, a high school student. His community service roles have included serving as President of the Granville Public Library Board of Trustees, President of the Granville Community Foundation, and Treasurer for the Rotary Club of Granville.

 

Dr. Jess Mamais 
Director of Secondary Education 
Middle and High School

Dr. Mamais brings to the district over 21 years of experience in teaching, evaluation, and assessment. She has served the district as the director of assessment and accountability since 2017.  

Before joining the New Albany Plain Local Team, she was the Assistant Principal at Olentangy Orange High School where she also taught for eight years. She has worked at The Ohio State University and has created professional development for teachers to incorporate inquiry-based learning into high school classrooms. She has also taught for three years at Centennial High School, in Columbus City Schools. Dr. Mamais has actively contributed to a number of state and local committees regarding student assessment, teacher evaluation and curriculum development. 

Dr. Mamais holds degrees from The Ohio State University including an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership, two Master’s Degrees in Educational Administration and in Secondary Science, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology and Athletic Training from DePaul University in Chicago.
