Meet the Principals
Teresa Smith, Principal
New Albany Primary School
Teresa Smith became the New Albany Primary School Principal in the summer of 2015. Her focus is to maximize learning for every child, every day through staff support and being a visible presence in the Primary Building.
Prior to her arrival in New Albany, Mrs. Smith served as the principal of Herbert Mills Elementary School in Reynoldsburg. As principal, Teresa led the redesign of the school, from a neighborhood elementary to the district's second STEM elementary school. During her three years as principal, the school focused on blended learning, problem-based learning, innovation and design challenges.
Prior to becoming a principal, Teresa taught third grade for seven years in the Reynoldsburg City School District. She has extensive knowledge of early literacy and has led her building in improving literacy instructional strategies. Teresa also has worked to improve the school culture and climate in her current school, as well as leading with a focus on data. Prior to entering the field of education, Teresa worked in banking, serving as a branch manager.
Mrs. Smith holds a Masters of Art in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelors of Science in Education from Otterbein College. She received her Administrative licensure from The Ohio State University. Teresa resides in Reynoldsburg with her husband Steven. They have 2 children, Christopher and Andrew and are grandparents to Christian and Laila. Her community roles includes serving as a member of the Reynoldsburg Recreation Commission.
Mr. Andy Roeth has worked in the New Albany - Plain Local Schools District since 2000, and has held various positions at both the K-1 and the 2-5 elementary school (now the Primary School). He has served as a kindergarten teacher and team leader, Dean of Students, and Building Representative for the Plain Local Education Association. In addition, Andy has served on numerous district and building level committees and initiatives.
Mr. Roeth holds three degrees all from Ohio University, Two Masters Degrees in Reading and Administration and a Bachelors Degree in Education K-8.
Mr. Ward will begin his role as Assistant Principal at the Primary School after serving last year as Dean of Students in grades 1-6. Previously, he taught 18 years as an adapted physical education specialist for students in the special education program grades pk-12. During his time in New Albany, Mr. Ward has served on the board of New Albany Special Connections, Specialist Team Leader, and numerous other building level committees. Mr. Ward is committed to supporting the needs of staff to establish a safe and supportive learning environment where all students can learn, grow, and have a positive school experience.
Mr. Ward holds an Ed.S. degree from Wright State University in Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development, a Master’s degree from Ohio State University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.
Outside of school, Mr. Ward directs the mission ministry at his Church and regularly leads domestic and international mission trips. He lives in Pickerington with wife and two daughters.
