Graduation Requirements for Class of 2025 & Beyond

Cover the Basics
Earn 21 Credits:
- English Language Arts - 4 credits
- Mathematics - 4 credits
- Science - 3 credits
- Social Studies - 4 credits
- Health - 1/2 credit
- Physical Education - 1/2 credit
- Fine Arts - 1 credit
- Electives - 3 credits
- Senior Seminar - 1 credit
Complete Financial Literacy requirement
Complete Service Learning requirement - 25 hours
Show Competency
Earn a competency score on Ohio’s high school Algebra I and English II tests. Students who do not earn a competency score on the Algebra I or English II test will be offered additional support and must retake the test at least once.
OR Meet ONE of FOUR options:
- Demonstrate Two Career-Focused Activities* :
- Foundational Proficient scores on WebXams
- A 12-point industry credential
- A pre-apprenticeship or acceptance into an approved apprenticeship program
- Supporting Work-based learning
- Earn the required score on WorkKeys
- Earn the OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal
- Enlist in the Military Show evidence that you have signed a contract to enter a branch of the U.S. armed services upon graduation.
- Complete College Coursework Earn credit for one college-level math and/ or college-level English course through Ohio’s free College Credit Plus program.
- Obtain remediation-free score in the math or English subject areas on the ACT or SAT. To demonstrate competency in English II, a student must be remediation-free in BOTH English and reading on the ACT.

Show Readiness
Earn two of the following diploma seals, choosing those that line up with your goals and interests. These seals give you the chance to demonstrate academic, technical and professional skills and knowledge that align to your passions, interests and planned next steps after high school. At least one of the two must be Ohio-designed:

OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal (Ohio)
Meet the requirements and criteria established for the readiness seal, including demonstration of work-readiness and professional competencies.

Industry-Recognized Credential Seal (Ohio)
Earn a 12-point approved industry-recognized credential or group of credentials totaling 12 points in a single career field.

College-Ready Seal (Ohio)
Earn remediation-free scores on the ACT or SAT. Visit the Department's website to see current remediation-free scores.

Military Enlistment Seal (Ohio)
Provide evidence that a student has enlisted in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Citizenship Seal (Ohio)
A student can:
-
Earn a score of proficient or higher on both the American history and American government end-of- course exams;
-
Earn a score that is at least equivalent to proficient on appropriate Advanced Placement;
-
Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a “B” or higher in appropriate classes taken through the College Credit Plus program; or
- Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a "B" or higher in both American History and American Government.

Science Seal (Ohio)
A student can:
-
Earn a score of proficient or higher on the biology end-of-course exam;
-
Earn a score that is at least equivalent to proficient on appropriate Advanced Placement;

Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a “B” or higher in an appropriate class taken through the College Credit Plus program; or
- Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a "B" or higher in an advanced level science course.

Honors Diploma Seal (Ohio)
Earn one of six Honors Diplomas outlined below:

Academic Honors Diploma;

Career-Tech Honors Diploma;

STEM Honors Diploma;

Arts Honors Diploma;

Social Science and Civic Engagement Honors Diploma.

Seal of Biliteracy
Meet the requirements and criteria, including proficiency requirements on assessments in a world language and English.

Technology Seal (Ohio)
A student can:
-
Earn a score that is at least equivalent to proficient on an appropriate Advanced Placement
-
Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a “B” or higher in an appropriate class taken through the College Credit Plus program; or
-
Complete a course offered through the district or school that meets guidelines developed by the Department. (A district or school is not required to offer a course that meets those guidelines.)

Community Service Seal (Local)
Must complete sixty (60) hours of community service (includes 25 hours for graduation).
- Hours must be completed with an approved charitable/non-profit organization.
- Hours must be pre-approved through the district community service liaison.
- Upon completion, students are required to submit a written reflection that includes a list of tasks and how the hours benefited the student and community.
- Completed hours are verified through an online system.

Fine and Performing Arts Seal (Local)
- Must complete two credits of any visual or performing arts course
- Students may substitute one (1) course credit with completion of a full season of an extracurricular program associated with the New Albany visual or performing arts departments.

Student Engagement Seal Local
Must complete at least two of the following:
- Completion of one sports season
- Completion of one performance/production
- Completion of 30 hours of club participation
- Students are required to log their participation hours and submit them to the program advisor or coach for verification.
