High School Child Care Assistant Job Description
Position: Child Care Assistant I
Reports to: Coordinator of School-Age Child Care Programs, Site Supervisor
Term of employment: School year 2023-2024
Hours per shift: 3-3.5 hour shift beginning after school until up to 6:15 p.m.; additional hours may be required on NAPLS Professional Development days
Hourly rate of pay: $12.00
Additional hours possible if desired: Summer Camp (June-August 2024); Environment preparation days on NAPLS Professional days
Location: Primary School
Employed by: Educational Service Center of Central Ohio
Minimum Qualifications:
- Participate in a full day of Staff Orientation - Saturday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM August 12,2023
- Work a minimum of 4 days each week for the 2023-2024 school year unless otherwise approved in advance by the Coordinator (athletics, clubs, etc.)
- Must be a Junior or Senior in the New Albany-Plain Local School District who:
- is 16 years of age
- is eligible to obtain a work permit
- can demonstrate the ability to be employed through successful completion of an I-9 form
- Prior successful experience working with students preferred but not required
- Positive attitude and lots of energy!
- Willingness to learn and implement current child development practices to support the social and emotional growth of Kindergarten through sixth grade students
- Required to hear conversation in quiet, as well as a noisy environment, and be able to tell where a sound is coming from
- Able to see objects/persons at a distance
- Must be able to communicate information to staff, students, and families
- Must successfully pass state and federal background checks
- Commitment to following state, county, and district health mandates and/or guidelines, both on and off campus
General Responsibilities/duties:
- Follow procedures to safeguard the health, safety, and well-being of diverse students and staff
- Work at least 4 days each week for the 2023-2024 school year; must be available to work during teacher professional development days
- Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with students, families, and staff
- Maintain confidentiality of participants
- Communicate orally and in writing in a professional manner
- Prepare and maintain the environment daily and as needed
- Assist students with special needs as needed
- Abide by guidelines and policies set forth by Eagle’s Nest, New Albany-Plain Local Schools, and the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio
- Demonstrate a full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, walk, jog, swim or otherwise fully participate in any/all activities
- Supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods of time in varied weather conditions
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator or the Site Supervisor
