2020 South Africa

  • "Wildlife Tracking, Digital Photography and the Fine Arts" 
    * Course limited to 15 students. Applications are taken on a first come, first serve basis.  

    Africa Elephants The course environment, activities, projects and assessments are redesigned to emphasize problem based learning and 21st Century skills such as communication, research and inquiry skills, critical thinking and self-assessment. As global citizens, students will have access to teachers at the university level, scientists currently doing research in the field, current technology and a classroom that has no walls. 

    This course was first offered in 2013.  Participating students will learn about South African ecology and the art of wildlife tracking and how it relates to conservation and science.  They will also develop digital photography expertise in class and then in South Africa as they photograph amazing landscapes and wildlife in the bush and on safari.  Students will also have the opportunity to earn credit in the fine arts and will learn about ancient rock art and pottery. 

    The course will include after school classes starting in the fall of the school year of 2019.  The course will include a two-week trip to South Africa in the summer of 2020.
