Current Season 2018-2019
The New Albany High School Theatre Department is excited to present FOOTLOOSE at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts on November 15th, November 16th, and November 17th!
Based on the hit 1984 film of the same name, FOOTLOOSE tells the story of Ren McCormack, a dance-loving teenager from Chicago, who moves with his mother to the small farming town of Bomont. Though Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school, he is not prepared for the oppressive local decrees of his new home, one of which bans dancing. This ban took effect after Rev. Shaw Moore - the town preacher and a respected authority figure in Bomont - waged a successful campaign against it. Rev. Moore is determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. After befriending Ariel, Rev. Moore's rebellious daughter, Ren must work with her and the other teenagers in Bomont to convince the town's leaders to legalize dancing once again. The heartfelt story that emerges out of this conflict is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.
To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score, augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage production, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. Many audience members will instantly recognize the many hits from the original film, including: "Footloose", "Holding Out for a Hero", "Let's Hear It for the Boy", and "Almost Paradise". FOOTLOOSE is definitely a show the whole family can enjoy.
