Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Montague

My entire career has been dedicated to the visual arts – both as a working artist and an art educator.  I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design, and went on to do graduate studies at The Art Institute of Chicago. I earned my teaching degree from Ohio Dominican University and my Master of Arts in Education degree from The Ohio State University.  I also hold a Master Teacher designation.

I was a museum educator at the Columbus Museum of Art for many years before becoming an art teacher.  This year marks my 19th year as an art teacher with 16 of those in New Albany.  I love to see how students of ALL abilities can truly blossom in their persistence of creative problem solving, curiosity and imagination while learning the necessary skills in order to be thoughtful, successful visual communicators. I challenge my students to create works they never thought they were capable of and many of my students have had their work recognized on the local, state and even national levels.

My personal artwork has been shown and published both locally and nationally. I feel that these personal experiences are important for me in order to continue to learn, grow and connect as an artist and greatly enhance my personal knowledge and skill set in order to share and teach what I know to young artists.

I had amazing mentors and teachers as a young artist – mentors who shared their expertise and challenged me to learn new skills, and to be a critical thinker and problem solver. I hope to do the same for future generations of young artists.
