• WHY DOES THE NEW ALBANY-PLAIN LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFER PRESCHOOL?

School districts are required to provide early childhood experiences to students with disabilities beginning when they are age 3.  New Albany-Plain Local Schools extends opportunities on a tuition basis for typically developing children (called “Peer Models”) to attend our Early Childhood program so that the learning environment for our children is comparable to those that are offered in community based programming.

I WANT MY CHILD TO ATTEND THE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM AT THE NEW ALBANY EARLY LEARNING CENTER, HOW DO I MAKE THIS HAPPEN?

To enroll your child into the New Albany-Plain Local School District preschool program  the first step is to pre-register online starting the enrollment process. Pre-Registration will be available starting February 1, 2021 online at the New Albany Plain-Local School Enrollment Webpage.

The preschool pre-registration is first come, first served.  If you secure a spot in one of the preschool programs (morning, afternoon, or all day) you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to proceed with the enrollment process. At this stage of pre-registration you will also submit the $125 non-refundable registration fee.

If you have secured a spot in the program you will receive a confirmation email within two days with instructions on how to proceed with the enrollment process.  The email will also include information on payment options and how to submit the $375.00 deposit and tuition agreement.

If no spots are available in the program you prefer, you have the option of placing your child on the waitlist.  During check-out, select “waitlist”.  Do not pay the $125 registration fee until you have secured a spot in the program.  Parents will be notified via email if a space becomes available and will be required to submit the $125 registration fee within five days to secure the placement.

*PLEASE NOTE:  The pre-registration period is open online between 2/1/2021 through 3/19/2021.   Registration will reopen on 4/19/2021 to fill any remaining spaces.

If your child is on an IEP (Individualized Education Plan):

    • If you are enrolling in the all-day preschool program, please continue with the online enrollment process.
    • IEP students enrolling in a half-day (morning OR afternoon) preschool program option, please DO NOT use the online system.  Currently enrolled students on an IEP that request to remain in preschool for the 2021-2022 school year have received information from the school.  If you have questions about enrolling students on an IEP, please contact Cassie Caudill at 614-413-8764.

DO I NEED TO LIVE IN THE NEW ALBANY SCHOOL DISTRICT TO ATTEND THE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM?

Living in the school district is a requirement for enrollment.  Parents of students with special needs who live outside the New Albany district should contact their local school district to learn about preschool options.

WHAT ARE THE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS FOR PEER MODELS?

    • Children must be three years of age and toilet trained.
      • A child cannot begin the program until his/her third birthday
      • You can begin the enrollment process 30 days in advance of his/her third birthday

Students currently enrolled in the NAPLS program will be placed on a comparable roster for the 2021-2022 school year. DOES MY CHILD RECEIVE BUS TRANSPORTATION TO PRESCHOOL?

Children who have Individualized Education Plans, or IEPs, receive bus transportation back and forth from preschool as required by law. Peer model students do not receive transportation on school district buses. Parents of peer models will need to drop off and pick up their children daily, or arrange before and after school care through a private child care center that provides transportation services.

The district only transports students to/from their assigned bus stop. The district does not transport to babysitters or other locations (i.e., dance lessons, birthday parties, playdates).
