Volunteer Background Checks
We greatly appreciate the support and are thankful for the numerous volunteers in the New Albany – Plain Local Schools. Volunteers provide a natural extension to the classroom and our learning environment on a daily basis. In an effort to increase safety and security protocols, the Board of Education has revised its policy for volunteers in our school district.
Given the nature of volunteer work in grades K-6 and the unpredictability that a volunteer working in these grade levels may not always be directly supervised while working with children, all K-6 volunteers will be required to participate in a background check to volunteer in our elementary schools.
Where and how will background checks be completed when required?
A background check may be performed by the school district via the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII) for any volunteer who has lived in the state of Ohio for five or more years. Any volunteer who has been a resident of Ohio for less than five years will have a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The $75.00 cost of the background check will be paid by the volunteer. Cash or checks are the only forms of payment accepted at this time. The background check is valid for five years.
Due to technical requirements, background checks will be performed at the Administrative Offices (55 N. High Street) located adjacent to the Primary school building and the Mt. Carmel Health Care Facility on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Valid photo identification is required for any background check. Please allow approximately ten minutes to complete the background check process.
