My Name is Michele Schaffer, and I live in New Albany with my husband, Allen, and three of our four children. Three of our children are New Albany High School Graduates. David, Class of 2015, Andrew Class of 2019, and Christopher Class of 2022. and is currently attending college. Our daughter Kaytlin is a senior at New Albany High School. All of our children have been active in the drama department, so we've spent a lot of time at the McCoy Center over the years.
I attended Hiram College where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Elementary Education and Special Education. I continued my education and earned my Master’s Degree from Webster University. I have also completed postgraduate coursework to obtain my reading endorsement as well as completing training in both Orton-Gillingham and Structured Teaching.
After taking a number of years away from teaching to stay home with my children, I joined the New Albany Staff as an educational assistant in 2012. In 2016, I was provided the wonderful opportunity to transition to an Intervention Specialist position, which I have held since that time.
When I’m not at school, you will find me enjoying time with my family, reading, or volunteering. I also serve as the Vice-President of Programming for Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Support, Inc., a non-profit that supports families living with a diagnosis of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), a rare neuromuscular condition my son, Andrew, was diagnosed with at birth. I plan a conference for about 700 people every summer.
I look forward to getting to know your child, and I’m looking forward to a great year!
