Mrs. Derrow

Believe it or not I was not always a teacher. I had a previous career working with BIG10 universities collaborating on large scale projects in developing countries. However, I always had this little voice in the back of my head telling me that I should go and teach. So I went back to school and got my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from The Ohio State University in 1994. I applied to New Albany Schools the following year, and here I am 22 years later. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

When I first began teaching at New Albany in 1995, we were a K-5 building with only 340 students. Since then I have seen A LOT of changes! However, one thing that has not changed has been my passion for 5th grade. I have spent my entire career with 5th graders, and I feel that I truly understand this age group. They think of themselves as mature and independent, but are still truly just kids at heart! They laugh at my silly jokes, and hopefully by the end of the year they share my passion for reading and writing. I can’t wait to meet your children, and hopefully inspire each and every one of them!

When I am not in the classroom, I am with my family. I have been married for 30 years and have two wonderful boys. Michael just moved out of the house and bought his first condo! My youngest son, Brandon, is a Junior at the University of Cincinnati where he is studying finance and marketing. We also have a Golden Retriever named Chloe who my boys swear is their “replacement” now that they are leaving the “nest.” In my spare time, I love to play tennis and hang out with my friends and family. I also love to read, go to the movies, and spend time at the beach (whenever I can)
