My name is Melissa (Missy) Mackey and this will be my 34th year of teaching and my 22nd year at New Albany. This year I will be joining the Teaching & Learning Team as an Academic Intervention Teacher for reading and math. Prior to this year, I taught 4th grade ELA and was partnered with Mr. Bush. I am a former Nationally Board Certified Teacher and a Master Teacher in the state of Ohio. I have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Assessment. I believe that each child has a right to feel safe and secure in their classroom and to have a teacher who is committed to do their very best to meet their social, emotional, and educational needs.
My husband and I grew up in central Ohio, and have been married for 34 years. Dave has his own painting business, Handiwork. We have two adult daughters. Katie is an Educational Consultant in Austin, Texas, and will be getting married in April. Abby & her husband live in Bogata, Columbia, where she is a Foreign Service Officer for the United States Department of Agriculture at the US Embassy.
I am part of the district’s student travel program, Education First (EF). This past summer, I traveled with a group of students to Panama, and will be leading another trip this coming June to Belize. I enjoy walking and hiking with my 2 dogs, Allie & Daisy, taking in the outdoors, playing volleyball and pickleball, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
It is my honor to be part of the New Albany Intermediate School. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about student travel or educational concerns. I look forward to an exciting year.
