Mrs. Kowis

Welcome to the 4th grade!  I am looking forward to working with you and your child to have a successful year in the fourth grade.  I will be teaching Writing, Spelling, and Reading coupled with selected units of Social Studies.  Mr. Hast will teach Science, Math, and Social Studies.

In 2002, I came to the New Albany School District, bringing with me many wonderful experiences and look forward to creating many more memories this year.  I have taught grades third through eighth in self-contained classrooms and departmentalized classes in middle school.  My experience spans public and parochial schools in Ohio and California, in both urban and suburban districts.  In 1983, I earned my undergraduate degree  from Ohio Dominican University, and a graduate degree in Educational Leadership and School Administration in 2004 from the University of Dayton.  Currently, I serve on the NAPLS Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) for teachers in grades 4 & 5, and have also represented teachers as a union representative on the Plain Local Education Association (PLEA).

Outside of work, my hobbies are travel, photography, gardening, biking, and singing with a German choir. For ten years, I have been fortunate enough to combine two of my passions by traveling with Education First (EF) and People to People International (PTPI) as an Educational Leader.  I have taken groups of students in grades 5-12 from Ohio to Europe, Canada, and Australia.  These experiences have enriched my life, influenced my teaching and helped me to continue my education with students outside of the classroom as we discover the many cultures around the world.

The role of an educator is one that is a partnership with the parent(s)and/or guardians. Communication plays a vital role in the success of your child’s education.  Please do not hesitate to email or call with any concerns.  I am looking forward to an exciting year.
