It is hard to believe, but I've been teaching since 1994. I have always had a passion for working with teenagers and mathematics. Is there a greater way to combine the two?
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University in 1992 and my Masters in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University in 2002. I taught at Newark High School (Ohio) for two years before moving to Texas for another two years where I taught Middle School math. In 1998, I was fortunate enough to receive a teaching job here at New Albany High School, which at the time housed roughly 400 students in grades 9-12. The changes over the last few decades have been dramatic and I have been lucky enough to be a part of it. I have taught every math class imaginable from grades 7-12.
Currently, I teach Honors Algebra 2 and Calculus. Besides teaching, I am a NEST Dean. This is a position I cherish because it allows me to work with students outside of the world of mathematics. Our High School Nest system provides opportunities to promote healthy student relationships, foster a positive school culture, and have time away from the stresses of a rigorous academic schedule. Something I have learned over the years is that teaching is not just about academics, it is also about building trust and relationships. I take pride in working with and helping to develop a well-rounded student.
When I am not teaching in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I have a wonderful husband, Rick, who is also a teacher. In addition, I have two wonderful boys, Nick and Curtis.
