Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Covey

This year marks my 18th year at New Albany High School and my 30-year as a teacher over all. I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Education, majoring in Special Education K-12 from Ohio Dominican College, now renamed Ohio Dominica University. I earned my Master of Art in Education concentration in Teacher Leadership and Supervision. This permitted me to earn my permanent teaching certificate. I continued my course work over the years earning an additional 45 graduate hours from Ashland University as well as Loyola Marymount University to become Highly Qualified in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. I have also presented twice at the Council for Exceptional Children National Conference (2005-2007).Prior to coming to New Albany High School, I taught applied math at Eastland Career Center in several career fields. I am the past president of the teachers association for New Albany as well as its past High School Junior golf team.

I am currently teaching Consumer Math as well as Senior Seminar. I am also co-teaching Algebra 2 Connections, Geometry Connections, and Probability/Statistics/Discrete Math (PSD). I am the current Peer Mediation Advisors for the HS. Over the past 29 years, it is the hallmark of my professional career to be an advocate for students identified with learning disabilities both in the classroom as well as within the teaching contract.

When I am not teaching in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I have lead several groups of students to Europe and will be taking another group in the summer of 2018 to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.  I have a wonderful wife, Leslie of 34 years. In addition, I have three wonderful children, Adam, Austin and Amanda who are all married. Adam and his wife work and live in Cincinnati, Ohio. Austin and his wife live in Columbus where they are expecting their first child. Amanda and her husband live in Cincinnati as well, where she is pursuing her Ph.D. full time.
