Mrs. Staebler

Hello! My name is Erin Staebler, and I am your child's social studies teacher this year. I graduated from Miami University with a business degree in Marketing and a minor in economics. I sold disability insurance for a total of three years. After abandoning my fear of "being a quitter", I realized that I was much better suited in a career that fosters growth, collaboration, and gives back to the community. After leaving my career in insurance, I completed my Masters in Education in Middle Childhood (science and social studies) in 2005 from The Ohio State University. I was fortunate to be hired at New Albany Middle School where I completed my student teaching.

This is my 17th year of teaching, and it is a joy for me to come to school each day! I taught 6th grade social studies for 9 years, and this is my 8th year teaching 7th grade. I feel fortunate to be working with middle school students who never fail to surprise me with their energy and perspectives. New Albany provides many opportunities for professional growth, and I am glad to take advantage of so many of them. I love trying new, creative, research and evidence-based educational strategies to engage and challenge students. It brings me so much joy to see students questioning, analyzing, and engaging with the curriculum that has such a lasting impact on our modern world. As an educator of history, I am constantly asking the question, "How does this relate to our lives now?" and "What can we learn from this past event?" Students will be challenged to answer these questions, for as George Santayana stated, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I enjoy working with parents to help their children achieve all that they can as young people.

In addition to the classroom, I have led student service learning tours to Peru (2015 and 2018), Nicaragua (2016), and the Dominican Republic (2022). Taking students on these international service learning tours has breathed new life into my career.  Students have returned with a greater sense of compassion and understanding after working alongside community members in a community-driven, sustainable service learning project.
