Hello! I am Jess Miller, and I am excited to start my sixteenth year here at New Albany Middle School and my nineteenth year in the field of Education. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English as well as a Masters in Middle Childhood Education from The Ohio State University. My first two years were spent working in West Palm Beach, Florida, at a Title One school teaching seventh grade English. I also spent a year at Horizon Science Academy teaching both sixth and eighth grade science prior to coming to New Albany.
I have always known I wanted to teach. Some people define a teacher as someone who imparts knowledge. However, to me it is so much more. Each year I strive to inspire students and challenge them to do something outside their comfort zone. Middle school can be a very awkward and challenging time. There are so many things to navigate beyond just the academic classroom. I hope in the time I get to spend with students they leave me feeling loved, accepted, significant, and as though they are a part of something greater than themselves.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My husband, Ryan and I met in graduate school in 2003, and we have a sweet, athletic nine year old named Max. I love reading, being outside, and doing anything that involves getting people together. I am looking forward to a wonderful year.
