Hello! My name is Kerry Fuller. Ever since I was in Mrs. Veith's first-grade class (1980) I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Her care and concern for each of her students are what caught my attention. However, my "interesting" time in middle school is why I specifically teach middle-grade students. I did not enjoy my time at Vail Middle School, and I saw a need for humor, patience, compassion, and flexibility from my teachers. Hopefully, my students see those attributes from me in our classroom.

I earned both my Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees from Wright State University. My Bachelor of Science degree is in elementary (1-8) education with specializations in language arts and communications. My Master's degree is in reading instruction. In order to challenge myself as a learner and to stay on top of the latest trends and standards, I continually take courses in English instruction, technology, teaching the gifted child, and a wide variety of other subject areas. I have been teaching since 1998. My career began in Columbus City Schools teaching 4th and 5th grades at Deshler Elementary School. In 2004, I made the decision to come to New Albany Plain Local Schools. In my first decade in this district, I taught 7th-grade language arts and reading. In 2014, I was given the opportunity to change grade levels. Therefore, I currently teach English 8 and English 8+.

My family and I have lived in New Albany since 2014. Our son, Sam (12), attends school at the New Albany Intermediate School. He states that he wants to have me as a teacher one day, but I know that will change once he arrives at the middle school building. When I am not planning lessons, thinking about bulletin boards, reading the latest young adult novel, or grading papers, I enjoy spending time with my family, crafting, and making new memories with friends. After all these years, I still love my career choice.

I look forward to a year of growth for all my English 8 and English 8+ students in reading, writing, and presenting/sharing their knowledge. Each student is going to have a great year! I want my students to make sure they are ready to share, ask questions, actively listen to their peers, think for themselves, and of course--read and write. Even though I am a middle school teacher, I am still here to help all of my students--future, present, and past; in fact, many students send me essays and ask questions like, "Is this a solid thesis?" As I have said to each and every class since my first one in 1998--"once a student, always a student!"
