The 2014 Black History Month program, entitled "Pieces Of The Dream", follows a narrative thread that takes the audience on a journey through African-American history which began over 400 years ago. Some of the historical events that are depicted in the production include: The Middle Passage, the legacy and contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen, and the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School in 1957. In the final act, some of the most influential African-American musical performers of the 1970s and 1980s will be featured. For the finale, all 120 student-participants (grades 2-12) will present "Jump!", a hip-hop tribute choreographed by Abbie Keller of Broadway Bound Dance Centre. The dance finale is an experience everyone in the community should see. The unity reflected by our six- through eighteen-year-old New Albany students dancing alongside each other is both heartwarming and exciting! This presentation effectively displays that our students are proud of each other and embrace diversity which is the culmination of what our school district values.
