New Albany ES World Maths Day All-Start Team take top honors in World Maths Day competition; Ishaan Chansarkar, Pranav Koduri finish in U.S. top ten

The World Maths Day All-Star Team of New Albany fourth and fifth grade students competed in World Maths Day in March and placed 15th in the world for their age division of students age 8 to 10.  More than 1.5 million students from 200 countries competed in the World Maths Day competition.

During the two-day math competition, students were shown addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and combination problems on a computer screen and entered their answers on a keyboard as quickly as possible.  Many students began practicing for the competition at the beginning of February, this improved their keyboarding skills to answer questions quickly.

Two New Albany students, Ishaan Chansarkar and Pranav Koduri finished in the top 10 students in the United States for the 8-10 age group.  Fourth graders, Ishaan Chansarkar, finished 6th in the USA with 2,384 points.  Fifth grader, Pranav Koduri, finished 8th in the United States with 2,338 points.  Ishaan, Pranav, and fourth grader, Adam Wang, made the World Hall of Fame list by scoring in the top 100 of students ages 8 to 10 in the world.

We are so proud of our New Albany World Maths Day All-Star Team,” said Susie Norman, team adviser.  “They answered over 58,000 questions correctly during the competition!”
