Due to the great response to our Service Learning trip to the Dominican Republic in June 2013, the New Albany Plain Local School District is again sponsoring international service learning opportunities for high school students in the summer of 2014.
Each Service Learning trip is unique and is guided by a Tour Director who ensures that every day is inspiring, immersive, and transformative. Students will complete 40 service hours through Education First’s service learning opportunities, which are recognized by the President’s Volunteer Service Award for meeting standards in service excellence.
Service learning and leadership opportunities help students put ideas into action. See the story from Edutopia that reports out the impact of these programs.
Financial Assistance and Scholarships are available
For more information, please plan to attend a meeting on

Join your friends in a 9-day trip to Peru! The group will visit a high mountain community and work with local communities on agricultural and educational service projects. In addition to service projects, you will have the opportunity to interact with local artisans in traditional Incan crafts, and visit historically important sites like Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley.
Last summer, 25 students from New Albany High School participated in a service learning trip to the Dominican Republic. This summer, students will have the opportunity to return to Cabarete in the Dominican Republic to continue the service learning projects launched there last summer. The service projects are coordinated through the Mariposa Foundation, a non-profit organization working to end generational poverty in Cabarete. Students will participate in education-based projects, civic engagement and authentic cultural exchanges.
